Holy crap! New content from Marketing Personalities?!
Yes, Happy New Year to YOU. Now, let’s get on with it.
January 1 is fast-approaching and maybe you’re like me and feeling that little itch to get planning. Or rather, the itch that has you wondering if you’ve planned well enough for the coming year.
You’re probably asking yourself one, some, or all of the following Q’s:
- Have I planned well enough for 2022?
- Should I have things more planned out?
- Have I overdone it? Maybe I could go with the flow more?
- What’s the best way to plan for a new year?
- Is planning for a new year just like planning for a new quarter? Or are there differences?
- Should I use a digital or physical planner?
This guide is designed to help you answer these questions for you, BASED ON YOUR PERSONALITY TYPE.
Because if there’s one thing that hasn’t changed in the past couple years, it’s that there’s NO ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL APPROACH. To anything. Ever.

Here’s How to Plan Your Year Based on Your Personality Type; The 2022 Edition
Analyst Tribe
INTJ – INTP – ENTJ – ENTP
On a scale of 1-10 how much of a plan-ahead kind of person are you?
8/10 on a fairly reasonable day. Sometimes, you’re at 11. (Zero judgment—me too.)
When planning, you naturally ask, “HOW?” first. You’re a born strategist, designed to take the big-picture goal and reverse engineer it into small, doable steps. As long as you have a clear vision of the big-picture goal, it won’t take you long to develop the plan of action to get there.
As you’re planning, Analyst, remember to AUTOMATE and INTEGRATE as much as possible so you’re not left with way too much on your plate.
- Automate – Key in recurring deadlines, auto-reminders, and auto-emails.
- Integrate – Offload anything that doesn’t need to be done strictly by you to a team member.
DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL PLANNER?
As always, you do you. I expect you to gravitate toward a digital task management system more than a physical one because of their high-efficiency factors.
Which digital task manager would be best? Find that in your Marketing Personality Type Full Report.

On a scale of 1-10 how much of a plan-ahead kind of person are you?
Depends on the day, but usually 6/10 on average.
When planning, you naturally ask, “WHY?” first. You’re mission-driven, only being able to put your best energies into projects and plans you believe in deep down. To begin planning, you must identify the MISSION you’re on. With the mission in clear view, the big-picture goal and the steps to get there will reveal themselves.
Note: A “mission” is a bit different from an “ultimate goal.” A mission is about what you’re standing for, what legacy you’re leaving, what change you’re making in the world.
As you’re planning, Diplomat, give yourself TIME and SPACE to develop your mission in detail, visualize your big-picture goal, and imagine what steps you’ll need to take to get there. Do not rush this.
DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL PLANNER?
As always, you do you. I expect you to dabble a bit in both. For some things, it’s got to be digital. Other things only feel right on paper. No need to choose one or the other!

ISTJ – ISFJ – ESTJ – ESFJ
On a scale of 1-10 how much of a plan-ahead kind of person are you?
10/10, full stop.
When planning, you naturally ask, “WHO?” first. You must know who is involved in the projects you’re planning and how everyone will be affected. You must also be careful to “set the scene” for your annual planning sessions. If your space is in disarray, your planning efforts probably will be too. So YEAH, it’s totally time to splurge on those candles, fresh flowers, and/or office shelving system you’ve been eyeing.
As you plan, Sentinel, keep your most important people at the forefront of your mind. And don’t forget to include yourself in that picture, too!
DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL PLANNER?
As always, you do you. I expect you to start with your physical planner (or even big calendar sheets taped to the wall) and then take all that genius and plug it into your digital task management system(s).

Explorer Tribe
ISTP – ISFP – ESTP – ESFP
On a scale of 1-10 how much of a plan-ahead kind of person are you?
3/10 max.
When planning, you naturally ask, “WHAT?” first. You’re most interested in what will be produced throughout the workday and less about how the work will be accomplished. To begin planning, you can debrief what actions you took in the previous year, finding what worked to produce the results you wanted. Then you can envision what you’d next like to create, foster, produce.
Pro-tip: Resist the urge/obligation to plan the entire year or even half the year out. You’re so much better on the fly. Just envision the very next project you want to take on. That’s enough!
As you’re planning, Explorer, remember your planning process doesn’t really need to look like a process at all. Follow your creative instincts and definitely don’t worry about it being perfect!
DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL PLANNER?
As always, you do you. I expect you to keep it simple with a physical planner. The more complicated, the less likely you are to use it.
